The hard work and innovation of our training officer, Jason Pinnock, have been celebrated in two heats of the Great British Care Awards.

Jason scooped the ‘Workforce Development Award’ in the east of england heats of the 2021 awards and was highly commended in the south east heats.

Jason has been instrumental in increasing our training provision for staff here at PJ Care.  He’s created online training programmes, organised educational conferences and even put together podcasts to offer something for every learning style.

The judges commented on Jason's "passion for training combined with technology, which has brought great benefits to the development of the workforce at PJ Care." They described him as "forward-thinking" and an "excellent advocate for the values of PJ Care."

Exciting for the sector

What caught the judges’ attention was Jason’s development of virtual reality training.  He’s initially used this to create a virtual mealtime experience for staff.

Through a VR headset, staff can put themselves in the position of residents at breakfast, lunch or dinner.  They can then see how their actions impact on residents and identify ways to improve the experience.

“This is an incredibly exciting revelation,” judges said, “not only for his service, but for the sector as a whole.”
