Career Path for Care Workers
 

Our Health Care Workers can progress to higher level Health Care Assistants with a Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent and then on to a Senior Health Care Assistant or Activity Champion with a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care (vacancies allowing).

Every year PJ Care sponsors at least one Care Assistant from each site to begin their nurse training. We offer the successful applicants an opportunity to become a Trainee Assistant Practitioner (TAP) studying via an apprenticeship to become an accredited Assistant Practitioner with a view to progressing on to becoming a registered nurse in the fullness of time.

 

Career Path for Registered Nurses – RGN, RMN, RNLD

Registered Nurses have a great future at PJ Care and can progress to Senior Nurse on shift, Lead Nurse on shift, Unit Manager and even General Manager of several units.

Alternatively nurses may prefer to go into practice development and clinical quality assurance.

 

Career Path for Therapists

We have a small Therapy department and employ Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who can progress to senior level and potentially even Therapy Manager. We also have Assistant Psychologists training to become Psychologists.

 

Non-Clinical Staff

General Kitchen Assistants can progress to Junior Chef and even Lead Chef in charge of the kitchen.

House Keepers can progress from Level 1 to Level 2 and if they have the skills can become shift Team Leaders. Support Services Managers have previously been Chefs or Housekeeping Team Leaders, depending upon their skills and capabilities. 

Maintenance Operatives may have the opportunity to take recognised plumbing or electrical courses.

 

Commercial Staff

PJ Care have a Marketing department, a HR/Organisational Development department, a Finance department, and Quality & Compliance, which includes Training. Progression in these departments tends to be on an individual basis, as vacancies arise and as professional qualifications are pursued and obtained.

 

Movement to other departments or functions

It has been known for Housekeepers to move into completely different roles such as Finance Assistant or Unit Administrator positions. For those who have other priorities in life and are not career minded, we sometimes find Health Care Workers prefer to work in other units or feel more comfortable as House Keepers, Receptionists or Maintenance Operatives and these options are open to them as vacancies arise.

COVID-19 AND PJ CARE

We are all aware that these are very difficult times and that nearly everyone has been affected in some way by the COVID-19 virus.

Here at PJ Care we are taking every precaution and doing all we can to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff and their families and loved ones. We have put many new systems in place to ensure the wellbeing of all, including heightened infection control procedures, restrictions on visitors to our buildings and reducing staff movement between Units.

As a result of the inconsistencies in conducting tests and the inability to carry out antibody tests, we have taken the decision to cease all new admissions until the situation is clearer. We have taken this decision to protect our existing residents, all of whom are vulnerable and at high risk should the virus get into one of our buildings.

As with all aspects of the situation this will be reviewed daily by our board and senior management team, who are meeting daily via video conference to review the latest situation and make changes to our processes as required.

We provide our staff team, residents and relatives with daily updates and ensure that everyone is able to keep in touch as much as possible in the circumstances. If you have any concerns or enquiries relating to the current situation, please get in touch on enquiries@pjcare.co.uk.

Staff access into our buildings is strictly controlled, and all other non-essential access is not permitted. Staff and residents are given regular health checks throughout the day to ensure they remain healthy and safe. Safe systems are in place to recruit and train temporary cover for staff who have to self-isolate. Our staffing numbers remain at our usual high levels.

While there are reports of shortages of some equipment and distribution by suppliers is rationed, we are confident that we have sufficient supply to meet the needs of our residents. We continue to do all we can to protect those in our care and the incredible people who look after them every day.
