Care home resident sets sail for yachting award
Lauren who lives at specialist neurological care centre, Eagle Wood, operated by PJ Care, has been accredited with a silver award through the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Sailability Certificate of Achievement Scheme.
Sailability was launched in 2006 and offers people with a disability the opportunity to sail at Ferry Meadows in Nene Park. The charity is run by 70 unpaid volunteers and supported by Nene Park Trust, the Royal Yachting Association, Inspire Peterborough, Vivacity and local rotary clubs. Sailability operates on two full days a week, with 9 boats and more than 150 sailors.
Lauren is delighted with her award and is looking forward to April when she will be back on the lake working towards her Gold Award.
PJ Care’s Chief Operating Officer, Neil Russell said “Sailabillity is a fantastic charity, the dedication and enthusiasm of their volunteers means that Lauren feels comfortable and safe attending their sessions.
We are very proud of Lauren, she is incredibly focused and we can’t wait to see her achieve the Gold Award”
