Catering services

We believe that enjoyment of food is hugely important to our residents. We work hard to provide food which is appealing, nutritious and appropriate. Almost all of our ingredients are fresh and where possible, locally sourced, as part of our commitment to local communities.

Our chefs meet with each new resident to understand their personal preferences and any issues including allergies, textures, fortifying needs, etc. Working with our dietician and speech and language therapists and the care team, we devise attractive ways to produce food which is textured appropriately (e.g. pureed) and presented in an interesting way so that it both looks, smells and feels appetising and is appropriate for each individual.

We cater for all food needs including regional/cultural and religious preferences as well as individual choice and special requirements, including Peg feeding. Residents can have very different requirements around portions (large/small) and number of meals and we devise individual menu plans to fit in with their needs and, due to our layout, we can accommodate group or individual dining, depending on resident’s preferences.

We particularly enjoy celebrating with our residents – birthdays, anniversaries or cultural days (St Patrick’s Day, Indian or Spanish week, etc.). Friends and family often come for parties or join us at summer BBQs and private catering is available for a very nominal sum.

Among the many awards PJ Care has won over the years, we are particularly proud to have been awarded the Northants Heartbeat Award by Northamptonshire in recognition of our excellent culinary standards. 

Fresh food is something we wholeheartedly believe in at PJ Care because better food means better nutrition and better nutrition aids healing and promotes a health body and mind. Wherever possible we use high quality fresh ingredients, often purchased locally, and all our dishes, cakes and pastries are freshly homemade in our 5* kitchen. Our chefs, nutritionists and dietitians work closely with you and your family to formulate menus that take into account personal likes and medical needs, such as allergies. In a care environment, food is a big part of the day, so we want the experience to be pleasurable and happy.

COVID-19 AND PJ CARE

We are all aware that these are very difficult times and that nearly everyone has been affected in some way by the COVID-19 virus.

Here at PJ Care we are taking every precaution and doing all we can to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff and their families and loved ones. We have put many new systems in place to ensure the wellbeing of all, including heightened infection control procedures, restrictions on visitors to our buildings and reducing staff movement between Units.

As a result of the inconsistencies in conducting tests and the inability to carry out antibody tests, we have taken the decision to cease all new admissions until the situation is clearer. We have taken this decision to protect our existing residents, all of whom are vulnerable and at high risk should the virus get into one of our buildings.

As with all aspects of the situation this will be reviewed daily by our board and senior management team, who are meeting daily via video conference to review the latest situation and make changes to our processes as required.

We provide our staff team, residents and relatives with daily updates and ensure that everyone is able to keep in touch as much as possible in the circumstances. If you have any concerns or enquiries relating to the current situation, please get in touch on enquiries@pjcare.co.uk.

Staff access into our buildings is strictly controlled, and all other non-essential access is not permitted. Staff and residents are given regular health checks throughout the day to ensure they remain healthy and safe. Safe systems are in place to recruit and train temporary cover for staff who have to self-isolate. Our staffing numbers remain at our usual high levels.

While there are reports of shortages of some equipment and distribution by suppliers is rationed, we are confident that we have sufficient supply to meet the needs of our residents. We continue to do all we can to protect those in our care and the incredible people who look after them every day.
