P J Care and Women Leaders sponsor STEM festival in Peterborough
The STEM Festival inspired by Ada Lovelace Day was conceived and founded by the organisers of Digital People in Peterborough and is a family-friendly event. Held in the centre of Petersborough on Saturday 1st October 2016, it was attended by Greg Pound from our business development team.
The one-day event which included workshops and presentations aims to inspire young people, especially girls, and encourage them into considering a career in typically male-orientated professions such as the digital secto, whether it is as a coder, writer, marketer or as a designer.
Women Leaders is the brainchild of Jan Flawn CBE, owner and chair of PJ Care and recognises women living or working within the Milton Keynes and Peterborough postcode areas who have contributed to the growth of their own particular sector or the ongoing success of their city.
Ms Flawn said "After winning a First Women of Business Services award myself in 2013, I realised how important it is to celebrate the achievements of talented and inspiring women from all business sectors.
"While the gender gap is decreasing, it is still very much a man's world when it comes to business leaders and i wanted to celebrate the hard work and achievements of women who have overcome obstacles to get to where they are today. Sponsoring the STEM festival shows future women leaders that you can have successful and rewarding careers in the medical, science, engineering and digital sectors."
Last years's award ceremony was a glitzy event, held at the Hilton DoubleTree in milton Keynes, where 14 inspirational leaders collected their awards from prominent figures including Dany Cotton, Assistant Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade and Brigadier Nicky Moffat, the highest ranking woman in the British Army.
The success of these awards, now in its second year, will be replicated in Peterborough and will be held at the Peterborough Arena on November 10th, 2017. Nominations for these awards will be open in the Spring of 2017.
