“Inspirational” PJ Care named 'Best Care Employer' in the south east
PJ Care has been named 'Best Care Employer' in prestigious industry awards.
The accolade is one of three the company received in the Great British Care Awards for the south east, which were held in Brighton on the 23rd July.
Judges commented that PJ Care "dare to think around corners, be different and outspoken in pursuit of excellence".
"The obvious dedication to continuous development was inspirational," they said.
The family-run company also took home the 'Dementia Carer' award, won by student nurse, Heather Marchant, from Eaglestone. Soon to qualify in mental health nursing, Heather caught the judges' attention because of under-taking training in her own time to further her knowledge with the aim of becoming a specialist dementia nurse.
"Heather demonstrated that dementia care was n her DNA," the judges said. "She has a passion for learning and ensuring residents' wishes are central in end of life care".
As winner of the 'Care Innovator' award, specialist nurse, Michaela Russell, was praised for her "drive, commitment and determination" in developing the company's referral scheme. Her dedicated team of nurses assesses whether individuals are suitable to move in and, as a result, 50% more people are being admitted.
More gongs from the east of England
A week later, staff were among the winners in the east of England heats.
Healthcare assistant at Eagle Wood, Nida Mafooz, won the 'Care Home Newcomer' award. Judges described her as "an asset to her organisation and, indeed, the sector!" and said:
"Nida has made a real impact in a short space of time. Her enthusiasm, passion and commitment to provide quality, person-centred care, shone through".
Grant Mugford, Estates Deputy Manager, took home the 'Ancillary Worker' award, for "stepping up to the Covid challenge".
"He has taken on multiple roles within the organisation for a variet of reasons and still volunteers at weekends," said the judges. For Grant, PJ Care and the residents are his second family. He is definitely a rising star with a cracking attitude!"
Chairman, Neil Russell, expressed his delight at the haul of awards.
"They shine a light on the dedication, innovation and passion among our staff," he said. "We are proud that our efforts to support our staff to develop their skills and help them reach their full potential have also been recognised."
All of our winners will go forward to the Great British Care Awards national finals in the autumn.
