Emma’s ‘life changing’ raffle prize win

A housekeeper at our Eagle Wood care centre in Peterborough was the lucky winner of our recent raffle for fully vaccinated staff.

She took receipt of a brand-new Renault Clio E-Tech after she was pulled from the hat.

We ran the raffle as a ‘thank you’ to staff who had their COVID-19 vaccination ahead of the government deadline for care workers, and as recognition for their dedication to our residents.

“It might seem an expensive gesture,” said Chairman, Neil Russell, “but it’s much cheaper than recruiting and training new staff.

“The offer of a new car encouraged a number of people who were unsure about being vaccinated to get the jab.  We’re delighted that they are now staying with us.”

The car raffle, together with a programme of information and a visit from a mobile vaccination bus, has meant that we are now set to say goodbye to less than 3% of our near 600 staff.

“We count ourselves fortunate to be in a better position than we were anticipating, and in a better position than many other care providers,” Neil added.  “However, we do have vacancies to fill and we particularly want to hear from nurses who may be interested in developing their carer with us.”

Emma was surprised and thrilled to win the car.

“I didn’t ever think I would win,” she said.  “I was very happy to be vaccinated.  I’ve worked for PJ Care for seven and a half years and I do enjoy it.  They’ve done their best to help me make work fit around my family commitments and I’m part of a really good team.  My son works here too!

“I think this prize shows how much they look after their staff.”
