To assist with management of the day-to-day provision of Catering services to PJ Care Ltd ensuring strict food hygiene standards the Health & Safety of the kitchen areas and catering staff are maintained.

We are looking for someone who is hardworking, trustworthy and enthusiastic. This job is for someone who not only takes pride in their work but someone who would like to one day train to be a junior chef. Flexibility is essential. Summary of Responsibilities;


1          Management

Provide leadership and direction to the Catering Team during your rota’d shift pattern & in absence of the Head Chef


Develop communication system with the Head Chef to ensure continuity & quality of service.

 1.3       Attend management meetings, as required.

 1.4       Carry out regular monthly audits of the Catering service provision, ensuring standards are maintained.

 1.5       Ensure compliance with PJ Care Ltd Catering Policy and Procedure.

 2          Catering

 2.1       Ensure the catering service meets the nutritional and dietary needs of the residents with regard to personal preferences and allergies, in accordance with Company policies and procedures.

 2.2       Assist the Head chef & Dietitian to produce 5 weekly menu plans providing a varied diet within budgetary restraints on a seasonal rota.

 2.3       Assist in the preparation of a costed rolling menu programme for PJ Care Ltd.

 2.4       Ensure all statutory standards in relation to the catering services are met in full, and to keep up to date appropriate records in the correct files.

 2.5       Maintain sufficient stocks of dry, chilled and frozen goods to meet the requirements of the menu plan.

 2.6       Carry out audits of catering areas to ensure compliance with HACCP and other legislation, good stock      management, including labelling and rotation of stock reporting to the Catering Manager


3          Health & Safety

 3.1       To consistently seek and implement ways of improving the quality and cost effectiveness of the service by keeping abreast of development in food services and production and residents needs and tastes.

 Help the head chef to manage all stocks and stores ensuring all food is correctly marked and correct stock rotation systems are in place.

 To deal with all inquiries in such a way as to promote the goodwill of P J Care Ltd

 To develop and maintain good relationships with the residents, relatives and staff through regular contact giving information, support and advice whenever and as often as required

 3.6       Complete the appropriate Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and HACCP checks and ensure the maintenance of the relevant forms relating to those checks.

 3.7       Complete documentation relating to Health and Safety, HACCP, Food Safety and Manual Handling. Making recommendations to the Catering Manager as required.

 3.8       To be aware of the legal requirements of health and safety legislation, including but not limited to the requirements of:

  • Food Safety act 1990,
  • Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regs 1995,
  • Fire Prevention
  • Prevention of Food contamination.

4          Budget Control

 4.1       To assist the head chef to manage all delegated budgets ensuring that targets are met.

 4.2       Follow Financial Standing Instructions.

 5          General

 5.1       Undertake such other duties and training as may be mutually determined from time to time that may fall within the scope of the post-holder’s capabilities and experience.

 Hours of work

In this role you will be working 7am-7pm on a 2-week rolling rota basis, working on average 38.5 hour per week.  You will have every second weekend off and are never scheduled to work more than three shifts in a row.
