PJ Care's Senior Management Team is led by an inspirational and experienced Board. Each member of the Board is driven by PJ Care's vision of Compassion, Commitment and Care. This vision is shared by the Senior Management Team and cascades to every member of staff. This passion ensures that our residents are at the heart of everything we do.

Board Members

Jan Flawn CBE, M.Univ - Founding ChairJan_Pro_Pic_Reduced.jpg

Our Chair is the typical example of a brilliant entrepreneur and clinician that was not prepared to play below her potential and had a dream that started of small with one specialised neurological care centre in Milton Keynes.

When Jan began to think about building a specialist neurological care centre back in 2000, she was driven by a simple concept of care, compassion and commitment and to provide the highest quality of care to vulnerable residents in a purpose-built environment.

Always at the helm, Jan ensures the PJ Care Philosophy and Quality of Care is maintained throughout all our neurological care centres and that our staff never lose sight of her standards and dream to provide this highly qualified care and support to the residents  with the full involvement of family and friends. Now, more than a decade later, she is delighted to see that our neurological care centres are flourishing, she is especially proud to see our staff effectively becoming part of the extended families of our residents.

Jan was recently awarded with the First Woman in Business Award from the Confederation of British Industries and awarded with a CBE in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Johann van Zyl – Chief Executive OfficerJohann van Zyl

Johann is PJ Care’s CEO. Originally from Tanzania, Johann brings to PJ Care over 25 years of experience in the international business arena, as a company executive, government lobbyist and advisor in the fields of finance, economic empowerment, management restructuring and project development for major national and international companies in Russia, India, South Africa, the UK, Ethiopia and Japan.
Johann supports and promotes the management philosophy amongst staff that a real leader does not need a title to lead, but has to lead by example. On a corporate level the vision for sustainable success for PJ Care is to stay focused on what the company does best, building on the foundation laid by the Chair and Founder of the company, Jan Flawn.

Johann was recently awarded with the Institute of Directors (IOD) London and South East Director of the Year Award  and elected Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Neil Russell – Chief Operating OfficerNeil Russell

Neil Russell is the Chief Operating Officer for the company. Before joining PJ Care Neil travelled the world as a diplomat in the British Foreign Office, gaining valuable experience as a negotiator and team leader.

Neil has been involved with the company since its inception and over the years has served in a wide variety of roles developing new departments to keep up with the ever increasing demands of a growing business entity. Neil has the responsibility for all the Operational functions within the Group, ensuring that the care teams are fully supported and that our care centre environments are conducive to providing high quality care in a comfortable setting.

Neil won the East of England Innovator of the Year award for his development and design of the Eagle Wood Care Centre in 2012.

Dr Hannelie Fourie – Medical ConsultantHannalie

Hannelie is a Consultant Psychiatrist with dual registration in General Adult Psychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry. She trained in Medicine at Pretoria University in South Africa and did her postgraduate training at St George’s Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital in London. Hannelie has worked with PJ Care for many years offering neuropsychiatry treatment to our residents. She became Medical Consultant for PJ Care in 2012 with the responsibility of ensuring PJ Care meets the National Clinical Guidelines and supporting the company’s clinical managers and medical professionals to ensure optimum quality of care for our residents.

Mark Butler - Director of Operationsrsz_mark_butler.jpg 

Mark Butler is former nurse, and experienced healthcare manager.He has worked in senior positions within a number of care home companies and charities. Recently he was operations director for a large healthcare company, where he was in charge of the running of 28 care centres with a turnover of around £34 million.

Mark is responsible for the overall operations function of the group.


George Otto - Finance Director

George-Otto-PJ-Care-Neurological-Centre.jpgGeorge Otto joined PJ Care in May as Finance Director. George has over 30 years of financial and business experience in both large and medium sized organisations. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa he held a number of senior financial positions in property and insurance business. He was Finance Director of the South African arm of leading European Insurer and was seconded to their UK operation in the early 1990’s. The group tasked George to spearhead their entry into the Indian insurance market and he spent three years in India, working with the Indian Government and Insurance industry during the de-regulation of the industry. George also has extensive experience as stock market analyst and investor.


Senior Management Team


Ginny Smith – General Manager Quality and ComplianceGinny Smith

Ginny’s background is in Learning Disability and Mental Health nursing and she has over ten years’ experience in the operational management of clinical services with extensive experience in governance and clinical auditing.

As General Manager for Quality and Compliance Ginny is committed to ensuring the highest clinical standards are met and the work PJ Care does is evidence-based, she is passionate about improving the experiences of the residents and their families and staff.


Amy Iddon - General Manager Milton KeynesAmy_P_C.jpg

Amy qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 2009. She began her career as a District Nurse, providing care to patients in their own homes. In 2012 Amy decided to specialize in neurological care and began as Lead Nurse on our Brunel Unit at Mallard House. After a year, Amy transferred to Bluebirds, taking the position of Unit Manager.

In June 2015 Amy was promoted to General Manager and is now responsible for the three units in Milton Keynes.  Amy also plays an active part in the community and is on the organizing committee for the Dementia Action Alliance which is driving to make Milton Keynes more dementia friendly.


Kevin Thomas - Deputy General Manager Compliance and SafetyPJ Care Kevin Thomas

Kevin has been with PJ Care since it was founded. He has over 25 years of experience from his time in the Royal Air Force Police and as a Security Manager in the private sector. He is a fully qualified Health and Safety Manager and a trainer in all aspects of mandatory care training. He supports staff as the Company Lead for Infection Control, Safeguarding Adults and his experience gained from long service with PJ Care. Ensuring that the residents, staff and visitors are entering a safe and secure environment supporting the core values of PJ Care where residents can live their lives within normal risk levels and supporting the Management team by managing the Risk Management committee.

Kevin is a Member of the British Institute of Facilities Management and holds a Diploma in Management.

Anna Lesniak - Clinical Audit Officeranna_P_C.jpg

Anna qualified as a Registered Nurse in Poland in 2001 and moved to the UK in 2004. Since joining PJ Care as a senior carer whilst waiting for her NMC registration Anna has progressed through the nurse management career pathway and has developed her specialised nursing role in both operational management and practice development.

Anna has clinical expertise in progressive neurological conditions with a special interest in Huntington’s Disease. She was part of the national working group with the Huntington’s Disease Association that developed standards of care for people with Huntington’s Disease. In recognition of this work Anna has been presented with a number of local and national nurse leadership awards, including PJ Care Employee of the year, PJ Care Leader of the year, PJ Care Outstanding Contribution, Great South East Care Awards - The Frontline Leader 2013 and Great British Care Awards -The Frontline Leaders award 2014.

Anna is now part of the quality and compliance team providing clinical leadership and guidance as well as quality monitoring throughout the company.

Yvonne Yelland - Unit Manager20151016_084848.jpg, Bluebirds

Yvonne is dual qualified as both a Mental Health and General Nurse. Yvonne has 26 years nursing experience in a variety of settings including stroke rehabilitation, neuropsychiatry, head injury and dementia services as well as acute mental health and psychiatric intensive care, and forensic learning disability rehabilitation.  Yvonne has worked as a unit manager for the past 8 years on various units both secure mental health, PICU and learning disability.




Micheala Beaney - Unit Manager, Chestnutkayla1c.jpg

Micheala qualified with a First Class Honours Bsc Nursing Degree, specialising in Learning Disabilities and Mental Health. Micheala started her journey with PJ Care in 2013 after deciding to pursue a career in neurological nursing care. Micheala has worked as a Registered Nurse and Lead Nurse for PJ Care and after experiencing a range of specialities amongst the different care models at Eagle Wood, Micheala has developed a passion for neuro degenerative illnesses and she is now the Unit Manager of Chestnut.




Amanda Findlater - Unit Manager, Fosse 

female_avatar.pngAmanda qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1997 and her clinical background is in neurosciences, oncology and urology.  She has over seven years’ experience as a nurse manager and has recently worked in the United Arab Emirates.

As Unit Manager for complex care at Eaglewood, Amanda is committed to providing a consistently high standard of care for our residents, based on the latest evidence-based nursing practice.



Anu Godogama - Unit Manager, Oakley

avatar.pngAnu qualified as a registered Learning Disability Nurse in 2003. Anu has over 12 years’ experience in a variety of care settings including Adolescence Mental health, Adult Mental Health, Secure Forensic Mental Health & Learning Disability Rehabilitation. Anu is also a trained Dialectical Behaviour Therapist and prior to joining PJ Care worked as a deputy manager and a nurse therapist in a specialist unit for people with Borderline Personality Disorders. Anu Joined PJ Care November 2014 as a Lead Nurse and was promoted to Unit Manager on Brunel unit in June 2015. He then took the position of Unit Manager for Oakley unit in September 2015.


 Charlotte Little - Unit Manager, Brunel 

Charlotte.jpgCharlotte qualified as a general nurse in 2012 and began her career in a London hospital, serving A&E and AMU. Charlotte then returned home to Milton Keynes and joined PJ Care as a Junior Nurse.

Charlotte has progressed with PJ Care to become a Senior, and then Lead Nurse for Brunel Unit and has now achieved the position of Unit Manager.

Charlotte has a passion for providing excellent end of life care and is one of PJ Care’s ‘End of Life Champions.’ Charlotte was crowned “Nurse of the Year” in the Great British Care Awards 2014/2015 in both the regional heat and national final.

Artemis Militsi - Unit Manager, Watling 

female_avatar.pngArtemis graduated from the Nursing School of Athens in 2008. In 2009, she moved to London where she took her Master of Science Degree in Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science at University College London. Artemis then returned to Athens where she spent five years working for the largest Neuro & Rehabilitation Centre as a Registered Nurse and then as Deputy Lead Nurse.

Artemis joined PJ Care in August 2014 as a Lead Nurse on Watling, specialising in rehabilitation, and has since been promoted to Acting Unit Manager. Artemis is currently undertaking an NVQ5 diploma in Management and Leadership.

Liz Morgan - HR Manager 

20151015_105125.jpgLiz Morgan is a seasoned HR generalist with over 20 years’ experience, primarily in the not for profit sector.  She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development and an accredited Mediator at Work.

Liz joined PJ Care in May 2015 providing expert support and guidance on matters such as recruitment and retention, employee relations, employee benefits, performance management, adherence to legislation and good practice and HR policies and procedures.




Penny Fasey - Training Manager 

female_avatar.pngPenny Fasey, a registered nurse, and experienced trainer and facilitator has nearly 20 years’ experience working within health and social care settings and ensuring high standards of care provision through quality led education and training. In addition to working within the NHS, Penny has extensive experience within the voluntary sector and is passionate about person centered care and empowerment.  Penny is responsible for overseeing our Education and Training Team and learning and provision, as well as developing our portfolio of programs and qualifications, including apprenticeships, QCF’s, clinical development and induction in line with national standards. 



Gavin Elsey - Business Development Consultant 

avatar.pngGavin is a business development strategist with in excess of 25 year’s leadership and management experience. He is adept in sales, marketing, public relations, implementing change management programmes, business growth, training and negotiation.

Gavin specialises in management consultancy and supports the board to devise and implement business development strategies, including new business development, business process efficiencies, local authority and public sector engagement, business growth or people development.

Gavin is a pragmatic, strategic thinker and decision maker, with the ability to positively engage with stakeholders internally or externally, at any level, up to and including European Parliament.


Sophie Rawson - Management Accountant 

Sophie.jpgSophie has been with PJ Care since 2008, she started off as a Junior Accounts Assistant and is now  our Management Accountant running the day to day accounts with her team. Sophie is AAT qualified and is currently studying for her CIMA Qualification.





Daria Drygas - Procurement Officer


Daria Drygas is the Procurement Officer for the company which she joined straight after her graduation at The Great Casimirus University in Poland. She is currently studying for her qualifications at the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. Daria is a dynamic multi-task orientated professional, skilled in supporting PJ Care procurement projects, contract management and performance monitoring. She has a proven track record of delivering savings, efficiency improvements and maintaining long-term agreements with vendors.

Daria is the primary point of contact on procurement matters, providing guidance and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
