Pauline Helliar-Symons, the Investors In People assessor from IBP stated, “The philosophy of Care, Compassion and Commitment, and the way it is applied to staff as much as to residents, really does influence the way managers manage and the way people work. It makes staff as well as residents feel valued and supports the company’s overall vision.”
Many employees spoke about their roles and the company’s management during the assessment, comments such as “The managers want everyone to feel they are not just coming to do a job and earn pay, but that we are learning to care, even if its just taking 10 minutes to talk to a resident. If I owned the place I would be disheartened if staff didn’t bother about people, but here they do, and to give residents the best care we have to have a better understanding of them; that goes beyond just the mandatory training.” were common place.
Jan Flawn, Chair of PJ Care stated that “We are extremely proud of this award, both as an organisation that places extreme importance on the development of its employees and as a collection of individuals that take great pride and place huge amounts of personal commitment into the provision of high quality care. This award is a reflection of where we are at present with our policy of continued development and growth, but it is also a good indication of the foundations we intend to build from with a continued strengthening focus on Care, Compassion and Commitment.”
